Texas executed Richard Lee Tabler by lethal injection on February 13 for the 2004 murders of Mohammed-Amine Rahmouni, 28, and Haitham Zayed, 25. Tabler, 46, lured the victims out before shooting them, even having an accomplice record the act.

Though he confessed to killing two other young women, he was never tried for their deaths.
Sentenced to death, Tabler initially appealed but later requested his execution proceed, stating he saw no point in further delays. Before his execution, he addressed the victims’ families, expressing deep regret and asking for forgiveness. He also thanked prison staff for allowing him to change and rehabilitate.
His execution was witnessed by some victims’ relatives, including the father and godfather of Tiffany Dotson, one of the girls he was suspected of killing. Tom Newton, Dotson’s godfather, said, “Today is for Tiffany. And this is justice.” Despite arguments from advocates that Tabler had shown remorse and personal growth, his sentence was carried out, with his time of death recorded as 6:38 p.m. CST.
