Marcela Alcázar Rodríguez, 33, tragically died on December 1 during a spiritual retreat in Durango, Mexico, after ingesting kambo, a poisonous secretion from the Amazonian giant monkey frog. The substance, used in South American healing rituals, is applied to burned skin to induce purging, believed to have health benefits.
After experiencing severe vomiting and diarrhea, Rodríguez sought help but was reportedly denied permission to leave. A friend eventually took her to the Red Cross, where she died. Authorities are now searching for the shaman responsible.
Mapache Films, where Rodríguez worked, paid tribute, saying, “Her passing leaves an immense void in our hearts.” The company extended condolences to her loved ones, remembering her dedication and joy.
