— ACTOR, SAMUEL L JACKSON 74, ON FEARS OF ALZHEIMER’S —

Samuel L. Jackson recently shared his personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease while discussing his role in the 2022 series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.” The actor, who lost his mother, aunt, uncle, and grandfather to Alzheimer’s, expressed the horror of witnessing the disease’s progression. He used his family’s experience as inspiration, highlighting the importance of caring for Alzheimer’s patients and recognizing their enduring value.

Jackson’s character in the series seeks a “fantasy” drug to regain lost memories, a choice not available in reality. He aimed to convey that despite the disease’s challenges, individuals with Alzheimer’s still deserve love and care. He emphasized that their minds remain active in their own mental space.

Regarding the genetic aspect, Alzheimer’s Society explains that while some types may have a genetic link, the most common form, Alzheimer’s disease, is primarily linked to age. Having a family member with Alzheimer’s at an older age doesn’t significantly affect one’s risk.
