Located in Treigny, northern Burgundy, Guédelon Castle is a medieval castle currently being constructed using authentic techniques and tools from the 13th century. The project, started in 1997 and expected to be completed in 2023, aims to recreate the architectural style and characteristics of a castle from that era.

The inspiration behind Guédelon Castle came when entrepreneur Michael Guyot discovered medieval foundations beneath the remains of Château de Saint-Fargeau. He decided to build a new castle, focusing on medieval architecture. With government support and funding, construction began in 1997, marking the beginning of a long-term endeavor.

Designed by chief architect Jacques Moulin, the castle follows the architectural principles of Philip II, the King of France during the 12th and 13th centuries. The construction site was chosen in an abandoned quarry rich in local stone and near a pond. The project involved a team of skilled craftsmen, including stonemasons, woodcutters, blacksmiths, and more, who meticulously recreated medieval techniques and materials.

Since opening to the public in 1998, Guédelon Castle has become a popular tourist attraction. Visitors have the opportunity to witness the ongoing construction and gain insight into the daily lives of people in the Middle Ages.
