On a cold night, a rich man noticed an elderly homeless man shivering outside. Feeling pity, he approached and asked, “You don’t have a winter coat, aren’t you cold?” The old man replied, “I don’t, but I’m used to it.” Touched, the rich man promised, “Wait here! I’ll bring you a thick coat.”
The homeless man’s heart filled with hope. However, the rich man forgot his promise upon returning home and only remembered it the next morning. Rushing back, he found the man gone, leaving a note:
“When I had no coat, I endured the cold. Your promise gave me hope, and losing it took my strength.”
The man had died, teaching us to honor our promises.
