New research reveals that women sleep better next to dogs than men or even cats. A study from Canisius College surveyed nearly 1,000 women and found that dogs, with sleep patterns more similar to humans, are ideal bed partners for women. Dogs tend to stay still, align their routines with their owners, and provide a sense of security that cats or human partners may lack.
Lead researcher Dr. Christy Hoffman notes that dogs’ ability to adapt to their owners’ schedules reduces disruptions in sleep. They also provide psychological comfort, with many women feeling safer with their dog’s alertness to intruders. However, Hoffman emphasizes that more studies, possibly with sleep-tracking devices, are needed to explore how pets impact sleep quality in various contexts.
