Just days before Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle, tensions flared between Meghan and Kate Middleton, leading to a heated exchange. In his book *Spare*, Prince Harry revealed the details of the incident, where Kate allegedly made Meghan cry over issues with the flower girl dresses.
According to Harry, Kate texted Meghan saying, “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy,” and added, “She cried when she tried it on at home.” Meghan suggested a tailor could make alterations, but Kate insisted that “all the dresses be remade.”
Harry noted that the exchange occurred amidst stress surrounding Meghan’s father. Despite this, Kate emphasized the importance of the dresses, leading Meghan to respond, “If the dress doesn’t fit then please take Charlotte to see Ajay. He’s been waiting all day.” The conversation ended with a cold “fine” from Kate, leaving Meghan in tears.
Months later, tabloids blamed Meghan for the incident. In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan clarified, “She apologized. And I’ve forgiven her… What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do but that happened to me.”
