The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed its vote on FBI director nominee Kash Patel, delaying it by a week. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) argued Patel lacks the necessary temperament.
Senate Committee Vote On Kash Patel Delayed Amid Dem Opposition
During his hearing, Patel pushed back against Democratic senators, particularly on events leading up to January 6, 2021. He claimed former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer ignored security warnings, stating that former President Trump had authorized up to 20,000 National Guard troops in advance.
In a discussion with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Patel asserted that Capitol Police declined assistance multiple times and that the Sergeant at Arms, who reported to Pelosi and Schumer, deemed extra security unnecessary.
Despite tense exchanges, Patel remained confident, dismissing Democratic criticisms as mischaracterizations. He emphasized his commitment to depoliticizing the FBI, saying, “The only thing that will matter if I am confirmed is rigorous obedience to the Constitution and a singular standard of justice.”
