Family of American Airlines pilot reveals heartbreaking final conversation before the plane crashed

American Airlines pilot Jonathan Campos, one of the 67 people who died in a tragic collision between flight 5342 and a U.S. military helicopter on January 29, was remembered fondly by his uncle, John Lane. Before the crash, Jonathan had a cheerful 10-minute phone conversation with Lane while boarding the plane, excited about an upcoming cruise with his family. Jonathan had always dreamed of being a pilot and had worked hard to fly larger planes. His uncle expressed both grief and pride, calling Jonathan a “good kid” who had done well in life. The crash, which occurred near Washington D.C., involved 64 passengers and four crew members aboard the American Airlines flight and three crew members in the helicopter. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
