Yesterday was a whirlwind that left me reeling. It started when I came home to find our babysitter fresh out of the shower, with my husband home too, which was odd because he should have been at work.
We had hired a nanny to help with our kids due to our chaotic jobs. She explained that she had spilled milk and took a quick shower while the kids napped. I felt it was inappropriate and told her so. To my surprise, my husband agreed with her!
Suspicion crept in—why was he even home? The next day, I decided to use an old nanny cam to see what was happening when I wasn’t around. Everything seemed normal the next morning. I set up the camera, kissed the kids, and left for work. But soon after, my phone showed my husband returning home shortly after I left.
I rushed back, pretending to feel sick, but really, I was worried. When I arrived, everything looked normal—my husband was cooking, which confused me. After some roundabout talk, he came clean. “I haven’t been laid off—I was fired a week ago and was too ashamed to tell you.” He had been pretending to go to work, then coming back to job hunt and help with the kids.
The shower incident was just as they said—a spill, and he was there the whole time.
