People Whose Good Deeds Can Make a Small Difference in the World

While in a foreign country, I helped a man in a wheelchair descend stairs, as his companion struggled alone. Afterward, he asked my name and invited me to his restaurant for lunch. Hesitant at first, I accepted.

As we ate, he revealed, “This is my restaurant—you can eat here anytime for free.” Touched but unwilling to accept, I proposed a deal: instead of feeding me, he should offer a meal to a random beggar whenever he remembered my help.

He smiled and agreed. Though we never met again, I hope that, from time to time, a hungry soul finds a warm meal—proof that small acts of kindness ripple further than we ever imagine.
