Romney Calls For Bipartisanship In Farewell Speech After Fighting Trump For Years

In his farewell Senate address, Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney urged for greater unity in the face of increasing partisanship. Reflecting on his career, Romney expressed pride in his accomplishments but also frustration with unresolved issues, particularly the growing national debt.

He warned that the U.S. is close to maxing out its “national credit card,” which threatens the country’s financial stability. He highlighted the potential to redirect funds from reduced interest payments into vital programs like the military and Social Security.

Romney also praised the bipartisan relationships he built in the Senate but criticized the prevalence of “meaningless votes” and the lack of real progress on important matters. He seemed to subtly criticize Donald Trump, cautioning against those who “tear at our unity” and “debase our values.”
