Senate Votes 88-2

The U.S. Senate has overwhelmingly approved a crucial piece of legislation designed to bolster the country’s nuclear energy sector. The bill, which received broad bipartisan support, passed with an 88-2 vote. Only Senators Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) opposed the measure, highlighting their concerns over nuclear energy expansion.

This legislation was combined with another bill focused on reauthorizing the U.S. Fire Administration and providing funding for firefighter grant programs. According to The Hill, the merged package is now headed to the president’s desk for final approval. The combination of these initiatives underscores the Senate’s commitment to both advancing nuclear energy and supporting emergency response efforts.

Advocates argue that this bill will enhance the fight against climate change by expanding nuclear energy resources. White House climate adviser Ali Zaidi emphasized its significance, stating that it provides additional tools to address the climate crisis with the urgency it demands. The legislation represents a step toward cleaner energy solutions while maintaining bipartisan backing.
